Be a Buddy

It is pretty easy being a Jayhawk Buddy. Chances are, you are probably already a good buddy by following these simple steps:

  • Take care of yourself.
  • Watch out for your buddy.
  • Celebrate safely.
  • Represent KU with class.
  • Obey the law.

Taking action is a huge part of being a good Jayhawk Buddy. Just remember I ACT when going out:

  • Identify your buddy for the evening or event.
  • Agree on a plan for the evening or event..
  • Check-in with your buddy regularly..
  • Take action to get you and your buddy home safely.

Drink Within Limits

At KU, surveys show that the majority of students drink responsibly or not at all. Those who choose to drink do so within appropriate limits.

Although heavy drinking does not typically dominate the scene, sometimes students definitely drink beyond their limit. That is why it is very important that you and your friends look out for one another. If you choose to consume alcohol, do so within limits.

So what are appropriate limits?

  • Make decisions that consider personal safety and the safety of those around you.
  • Manage your alcohol consumption skillfully, such as pacing yourself or alternating drinks with water.
  • Do not burden others with the responsibility of cleaning up your mess, or staying up all night to “nurse” you.
  • Demonstrate your “moxie” by stopping before you embarrass yourself; know “how much is too much” and stop well before it reaches that point.
